"The moment I realized why I love teaching at Bridgeway Academy occurred during a math class last year. When teaching math, I have encountered a lot of fear around learning fractions. One student in particular struggled a great deal with learning this concept. On this day, he had been working very well all class and I went over to him to check on his progress. With fear in his eyes and his voice, he passed me his work and asked me to check it over. When I told him that he had answered every question correctly his eyes lit up and he exclaimed, "I did it. I never understood this stuff before." It was that moment I realized how important a school like Bridgeway Academy is."

In the small classroom setting, I am able to work with the students as a class, as well as on an individual basis. - Today I was a teacher.Today I taught individualized instruction to students with learning disabilities.Today my largest class size was 6, and my smallest was 2.Today I visited every single student at his or her desk.Today I read every single student`s work.Today I know that every single student understood their homework assignments before leaving the classroom.Today I emailed a parent because their son wrote 7 sentences in his journal compared to the 3-word single sentence he was writing in September.Today I listened as a 16-year-old student advocated for herself because she needed an extension on her assignment.Today I connected with every single student in my care.Today I taught kids who got it. Today I know that every student in my classroom experienced success in his or her learning.Today, when the dismissal bell rang, I saw 97 students with learning disabilities leave Bridgeway Academy with a sense of dignity.Today I was a teacher.By Lynne M. Our Programs
Bridgeway Academy offers a number of specialized programs to our day school students, which assist with the development of reading, math, organization and social skills. Many of our programs are now available to the community through our Turning Tides Community Outreach services.
Tuition Support
Tuition Support is available from the NS Department of Education for students who qualify.
