Our Programs
With over 29 years of experience working with students with learning disabilities, we have developed a number of specialized programs that work.
We begin with a personalized admissions process that includes academic assessments to identify the student's strengths and needs. We use that information to build an individualized program which uses those strengths and addresses the student's needs. We continuously monitor the student's progress through evaluation, feedback and adaptations to ensure outcomes are met.
- Bridgeway Reading Program
We understand what it takes to help a struggling student learn how to read. We've combined what we've learned with proven teaching methods to create the
Bridgeway Reading Program. Our approach has helped hundreds of students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities learn how to read.
We start with a check of the individual's reading readiness, and then show them how they'll be using all of their senses to help them learn. Students move through three levels of the program, working on reading, writing and spelling skills through games, sounds, and hands-on activites.
Students who complete the Bridgeway Reading Program leave with a love of reading and a confidence in their abilities.
- Social Skills Program
We know that learning how to make friends and understanding how to behave in different situations is as important as the academic side of learning.
Bridgeway's
Social Skills program has been specifically developed for students who are diagnosed with a non-verbal learning disability and/or ADHD, but it can benefit anyone who needs support with communication, behaviour or social interactions.
Students learn in small groups with others who share their strengths, needs and current social/emotional understanding. They have fun while working on self-awareness, awareness of others, social interaction skills relationship skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, self-management, social thinking and daily life skills.
- Drumming Program
All students in our day school programs participate in an
African Drumming lesson once a week.
African drumming instruction is a tremendous hands-on learning tool for students with learning disabilities. Following beats, learning rhythms and playing as a group allows our students to activate their muscle memory and short-term memory. It also helps them to improve their listening skills, focus, and team work, as well as their appreciation of the African Culture. All of this leads to enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem.
